Exploring the World with Flexibility: Our Journey as Digital Nomads

As digital nomads, Isabel and I (David) have had the incredible opportunity to travel the world, experiencing the beauty and diversity of countless countries. Our journey started in Mexico, a country that quickly felt like a second home. However, Italy was calling. Our four months in Italy were divided into exploring and spending time with Isabel’s family. We indulged in authentic Italian dishes, of course. But as much as we loved Italy, we knew our journey had to continue.

Sri Lanka was next, offering a completely different experience. For three months, we explored ancient temples, tea plantations, and pristine beaches. The island’s diverse landscapes and cultural richness left us in awe. The warmth and hospitality of the Sri Lankan people, along with the country’s stunning scenery, made it an unforgettable part of our journey.

Following Sri Lanka, we ventured to India for a month. The vibrancy and diversity of India were overwhelming in the best possible way. We marvelled at the Taj Mahal, navigated bustling markets, and savoured the incredible cuisine. From the chaotic streets of the cities to the tranquil backwaters of Kerala, India was a sensory overload that left a lasting impression. The country’s rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes offer a unique and enriching experience.

Nepal came next, and the stunning mountain vistas and the spiritual atmosphere of Nepal were unforgettable. We explored the ancient city of Bhaktapur and soaked in the Chitwan nature with its wide range of wildlife available to admire. The natural beauty and spiritual essence of Nepal provided a sense of peace and fulfilment.

Malaysia followed, and we enjoyed the mix of modern and traditional influences that Malaysia offers. We explored the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Kuantan, George Town and the Perenthian Islands. We also spent one month with a local family inland in the Bentong area (Pahang).

Our time in Bali was a peaceful retreat. We explored rice terraces and relaxed on the beach. Bali’s spiritual and serene vibe was the perfect respite after months of constant travel. We visited the iconic Uluwatu Temple, explored the artistic town of Ubud, and enjoyed the tranquil beaches. Despite Isa catching both a parasite and a bacterium while there in Sidemen, Bali’s beauty and tranquillity made it a memorable part of our journey.

After Bali, we made a quick stop in Thailand for two weeks. Though brief, our time in Thailand was packed with incredible food, vibrant markets, and stunning temples. We explored Bangkok, which is always packed with activities and incredible street food. Thailand’s rich culture and friendly people made it a delightful stop on our journey.

We then returned to Europe, spending time in Italy, Hungary and Iceland, but a few months later we were back in Asia: Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Each destination brought its own unique experiences and adventures, contributing to our ever-evolving travel story. And these are just highlights—our journey is ongoing, with each new destination chosen spontaneously and often booked as a one-way flight.
